Lots of Good News

WV 5k Championship

We are currently working on the WV 5K Championship. The date has been set for June 19, 2010!

This year promises to be bigger and better than last year. We have many ideas that we will implement to make the WV 5K Championship presented by the Herald-Dispatch the best race in West Virginia.

We are very lucky to have our partnership with the United Way!
Participating in the race also means you are supporting our community via our Community Partner – United Way of the River Cities. United Way's Health & Wellness focus area -- one of their four focus areas that include Families & Children, Learning & Earning and Basic Needs & Unforeseen Hardships -- is in line with the WV 5K Committee goals. United Way is working to get people to engage in healthy eating and active living!

I have heard some rumors that the Huntington Road Runners Club will be starting a beginner's running group. Hopefully, their main objective will be to train people for the WV 5K Championship. This is another wonderful partnership that will encourage more people to work towards their fitness goals!

Marathon Building

Personally, my running is going very strong. I am training for the Flying Pig Marathon on May 2nd in Cincinnati, OH. My goal is to break 3 hours on the hilly course.

My training for the past 7 weeks has looked like this:

Week 1 - 38 Miles
Week 2 - 43 Miles
Week 3 - 48 Miles
Week 5 - 45 Miles
Week 6 - 58 Miles
Week 7 - 65 Miles (Biggest week ever!)
This is the 8th week and I am looking to get 60 miles in.
